Welcome to Robert Kahler’s CYCLING
DEVELOPMENT & TRAINING CLINICS.
These popular Training Clinics, which have been run since 1983, are a
fun and fast
way to develop your fitness - whether for cycling or any other activity. These exciting and fast paced classes challenge you, both mentally and physically, to improve your physical conditioning and mental toughness. Everyone with the desire can improve dramatically in as
little as
one
8 week session. Depending on your starting point, it is highly possible for you to make up to a
25 percent improvement
in your aerobic function while losing a few pounds (and percentage points) of fat in the process. All this in a safe, structured, and well guided high energy environment.
The CYCLING CLINICS were developed in 1983 by Robert Kahler, upon his return from a National Team coaching appointment at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. With a Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology and ten years of cycling experience to his credit at the time, Robert put together what has become the Nation’s most comprehensive and successful indoor cycling training program. Now,
over twenty years later,
the Clinics have grown enormously in popularity and reputation for being
"the place to be"
for the
ultimate
in personally planned, highly motivated, success driven cycling training programs.
In order to quantify the results of each participant over the 8-9 weeks, a sub-maximal VO2 (oxygen consumption) test and a body fat skinfold test are performed at the beginning and end of each cycling Clinic. These tests results, shown on a computerized results form, are given to the Clinic members and explained so that each person is able to understand as well
as assess their own fitness and body fat level (not to mention their improvement by the end of the Clinic). For those who are willing to work hard - the improvement can be
dramatic!
Of the three Clinics run every year, the October / November Classes
(Torture Prelude Cycling Clinic)
and the January/February Classes
(The Torture Clinic)
are both run on Tuesday and Thursday evenings with two separate class times each night. The
Speed/Power Clinic,
in the Springtime, runs either one and/or two evenings per week. During the classes, each participant utilizes his or her own bicycle in conjunction with the equipment provided, which helps the riders work on the varied skill, endurance and power development aspects of their cycling or other sport. The result of all of this shows up in a stronger, leaner, and tougher athlete, who is now more willing and able to perform for longer periods of time at
a higher level and with more confidence than ever before.

TORTURE PRELUDE CYCLING CLINIC
8 Weeks
Tuesday and Thursday Evenings
October 6th through December 1st, 2009
5:25 or 7:05 P.M. Classes
Sign-ups begin August 1, 2009
Fee: $319 with a $10 Discount for Cash or Check
PURPOSE:
1) To fortify each participant with the knowledge and understanding of aerobic cycling training.
2) To give each participant practical experience in a heart-rate based training program.
3) To develop the mental and physical abilities to be able to effectively participate in an intensity-based training program.
4) To develop leg strength and power, aerobic power, cardio-respiratory fitness and the ability to enhance one's metabolism and fat burning capabilities.
5) To gain confidence, mental toughness, and physical
endurance.
6) To discover the fun and exhilaration of group fitness training.
7) To pre-test and post-test your body fat percentage and oxygen uptake capacity, and graphically show your improvement.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
1) How to operate the Monark bicycle ergometer.
2) How to effectively utilize the wind trainer.
3) How to balance-up with your bicycle on the rollers (optional).
4) How to calculate your effort into quantifiable results
in order to keep track of your progress.
5) How to spin the pedals to develop pedaling efficiency.
6) How to work up to a medium and/or high aerobic training zone.
7) How to develop a progressive resistive cycling training
program.
8) How to push through your perceived fatigue barrier to
enjoy greater levels of cycling fitness and intensity.
9) How to improve your nutrition to enhance your performance.
Look or SPD Compatible shoes are required. A Heart Rate Monitor is absolutely necessary and required for this class.
